This should be fun. I'm brand new to Vespas, but took my wife down to Quail Motorcycle Gathering and she decided we've got to get a vintage Vespa. I'm in, so in. I want a Vespa with a sidecar, and I want to restore it. I want something vintage but like the idea of swapping in a modern engine. I've restored cars, motorcycles, and built racecars, so I'm plenty handy.

What would you do, and what should I budget for the project.

.... also we REALLY want a nice sidecar.

If money isn't an issue, the new 305 cc motors may be just the ticket, but certainly, start with a kitted 200cc, and disc brakes are priceless!

It depends on what you are into my friend. The vintage Vespa's models are becoming more difficult to find especially one's in good condition. A P200e with sidecare can fetch $5,000 USD in good condition. Where a Vespa GS with sidecar could run $12,000 USD. What type of scooter are you looking for and what do you want to get out of it? Keep it original or kit the machine to go faster, wide body, small body, old or new. There are many options available out there.
