I've been trying for days to separate my case. The top is spreading but not the bottom. Do I need to remove anything other than all the nuts? Can other components hinder the separation?

Try pumping the kickstart, do not apply to much force.

Thanks Matt. I tried that without any success. Are there instances where the only way you can separate a stubborn case is with the case separator tool?

Yes, but I have also seen where part of the case has fused itself to the other part of the case due to corrosion. Is there anyway for you to soak the cases in some penetrating oil for several days and see if that will help?

You have to turn the kick starter about 90 degrees as you tap cases apart using boss on bottom of cases

So... Turns out that the bottom bolt (longest) that holds the cases together was fused to the cases. With a lot of persuasion, a Vespa expert was able to free the bolt. Persuasion included - penetrating oil, banging, drilling, cutting etc. All with the use of a factory crankcase separator! Thanks for the tips!
